Bunny Molting

With the weather getting warmer your rabbit will start shedding their winter coat. Bunny shedding is called molting. This happens about twice a year but the amount they molt can range from crazy to barely noticeable.

It's very important to brush your bunny lots while they're molting. Not only to keep them comfortable but to keep them safe and healthy. Rabbits are self grooming and will clean themselves, but unlike cats they can't cough up hairballs when they ingest too much fur. This can cause some serious G.I. tract problems that could lead to hefty veterinary bills and possibly death in extreme cases. You'll know this is beginning to become an issue if you find bunny "poop ornaments", which is bunny poops strung together by fur.

I recommend brushing twice daily during heavy molts and it can last up to a couple of weeks. (But for some bunnies only a few days).

Brushes sold at pet stores typically marketed to cats will work for bunnies. (I have a few options saved here: https://www.ourbunnybarn.com/bunnysupplies

Just be careful brushing your bunny as they have very delicate & thin skin. But brushing them only takes a couple of minutes if you stay on top of it. ☺️
