White Ear & Vienna Genes

We decided to focus our rabbitry

on white ear and Vienna marked Holland Lops. They are absolutely beautiful pets. we are drawn to the striking white markings and blue eyes.

The white ear gene was only recently introduced to the USA from Europe. It originated in Germany and the UK only a few years ago. There is very few breeders of white ear Hollands in Canada. We had Brian imported from the USA to start our white ear program. The gene causes 2 white ears, a white blaze, white paws, and a white nose marking.

The Vienna gene is responsible for blue-eyed whites (BEW) and a rabbit with a single Vienna gene can be Vienna marked or a Vienna carrier. Vienna marked rabbits will have white markings and/or blue eyes. We currently have 3 Vienna marked rabbits in our breeding program, Hunny, Rosie, and Angel Cake.

White Ear and Vienna marked Hollands (aside from BEWs), although beautiful, are not showable colours according to the ARBA. However, we are focused on working towards breeding them as close to the ARBA standard of perfection as we can. Also, more importantly for us, we only breed rabbits that have proven to have great temperament as we are more focused on raising pet bunnies, or occasionally raising bunnies for other breeders.
